Jim Laird

Jim specialises in Risk Management, Business Process Management and Business Process Improvement including:
• Development and deployment of strategy with a focus on managing corporate risks
• Development and implementation of organisation wide risk management systems
• Business process analysis, redesign, improvement and management, includes Six Sigma
• Alignment of human resources with business processes to achieve objectives

With 18 years’ consulting experience at Synergy, in mining, banking, transport, water infrastructure, manufacturing and Government, Jim has worked across a range of organisations including large corporations and Government agencies. He has managed over 90 projects.

Clients include Westpac Bank, Coal & Allied, Anglo Coal, Idemitsu Australia Resources, Port Waratah Coal Services, Muswellbrook Coal Company, Xstrata mining, Sydney Water, RailCorp, Coca-Cola, University of Newcastle, Dairy Farmers, Commonwealth Department of Finance and Administration.

Clients in Indonesia over 16 years include BP West Java, Garuda, Sucofindo, Surveyor Indonesia, PELNI (national shipping), Pertamina (national petroleum) and Tyco Electronics.

Jim’s style is to engage and work with people at the level required to achieve the project objectives. Recently a Hunter Valley coal mine General Manager stated: “Jim’s work has been great. He got under the radar and worked with the management team to get it done.”

Prior to his consulting work, Jim had 25 years’ industrial experience. At ACI Crown Corning Glass, his roles included manufacturing management, risk management, raw materials resource development, minerals mining and processing, quality management, energy, environmental management and business process improvement.

Jim is a Chemical Engineer from the University of New South Wales, in Sydney, a member of RMIA (Risk Management Institution of Australasia), and a committee member of AIBC (Australia-Indonesia Business Council). He has also carried out many projects in South East Asia and has reasonable level of fluency in Bahasa Indonesia.
