
Walter Sandosam graduated from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, England where he read Management Sciences majoring in finance and also holds a Master of Management degree from Open University Malaysia. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow at HELP University College, a leading private university in Malaysia which offers pre-university, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to local as well as international students namely from China, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Middle East and African countries amongst others.
Prior to joining HELP University College, his career has spanned over 30 years working with the largest commercial banking group in the country covering the spectrum of banking activities. Walter’s specialization is in enterprise risk management and internal control. His last appointment was as a Vice President, Internal Audit at Maybank, Malaysia
He has obtained the postgraduate professional certifications of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA) awarded through examinations set by the Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. USA. As a certified Quality Assurance Reviewer (QAR) , he is recognized as competent globally to conduct quality assurance reviews for internal audit functions.
Walter has served as the President of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (IIAM) and was a committee member of the Asian Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (ACIIA). At the international level, he is a member of the Academic Relations Committee of IIA Incorporated, USA and has specific responsibility for oversight of tertiary institutions of higher learning globally which provide academic programs in risk management and audit. IIAM has conferred Fellowship status on him for his services to the audit profession.
Walter is a Board Member of the AUDIT AND ASSURANCE STANDARDS BOARD (AASB) of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and has been appointed by the Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia to serve on the Operation Review Panel of the MALAYSIAN ANTICORRUPTION COMMISSION (MACC).
He has delivered papers at both local and international conferences and has conducted training programs at Senior Management and Board levels with specific focus on risk management, corporate governance and internal control systems.
